Newhall Crime Report: Deputies follow up on property crimes

Greetings from Newhall. I hope everyone had a safe and happy fourth-of-July. During the above dates Newhall saw eight reported part one crimes. Of those crimes, Newhall (Zone 6) had one vehicle burglary, one petty theft, two robberies, two stolen vehicles, one arson, and one assault reported.

A vehicle burglary was reported from the 24200 block of Arch Street in Newhall. The vehicle was rummaged through and the suspect(s) attempted to steal the radio by prying the dashboard inside the vehicle (ref -08879).

An assault was reported from the 25000 block of Walnut Street. This incident is classified as a domestic violence incident. One male Hispanic adult was arrested on felony battery charges (ref -09191).

An attempt grand theft vehicle (motorcycle) was reported from the 25100 block of Everett Drive. While inside, the informant heard a truck outside the location. The informant went outside and discovered the suspect(s) trying to steal his brother-in-laws Suzuki GSX-R motorcycle. The suspect claimed he was a repo man, however the motorcycle was already paid off and the victim was in possession of the pink slip. The suspect(s) fled the area and the investigation is on-going (ref -09213).

Arson was reported from the men’s bathroom of the Metro Link Station located on the 24300 block of Railroad Avenue. An unknown suspect(s) lit the toilet paper dispenser on fire. Approximately $300 worth of damage was caused. The investigation is being handled by LA County Sheriff’s Arson / Explosives Detectives (ref -09116).

A 2000 Chevy 1500 pickup was reported stolen from the Newhall Avenue / SR 14 Park-N-Ride area. The vehicle was stolen during the day time hours (6:30am – 3:00pm) on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2013 (ref -09017).

Both robbery incidents occurred on Tuesday, July 2nd 2013 from the Vons located on the 24100 block of Lyons Avenue. One of the incidents occurred at 2:45pm and the next at 5:40pm. Both incidents allegedly involved suspects stealing from the location and then using force with loss prevention officers. Suspects in both incidents were arrested (ref -08954 -08963).

There were multiple arrests over the past week in Newhall, and deputies continue to be proactive during the summer months.
