A planned special election to fill two vacant seats on the Castaic Area Town Council has been called off after only one candidate emerged for each position, the council’s president said Friday.

“There’s no voting tomorrow at all,” said Town Council President Flo Lawrence of today’s scheduled election. “The two candidates are running unopposed.”

Marty Kreisler and Dawn Faulconer will join the council, which serves as an advisory body to county Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, providing feedback on issues facing residents in the unincorporated areas of Castaic and Val Verde.

Town Council members represent districts within the two communities. Kreisler will represent Region 1, encompassing Live Oak, North Bluffs, Hillcrest Park, Hasley Hills and the Valencia Commerce Center; Faulconer will represent Region 5, which includes Double C Ranch, Hidden Lake, Stonegate, Northlake and regions east of Interstate 5 and north of Lake Hughes Road, according to Lawrence.

“We have two committed, willing and outstanding community members who stepped forward,” Lawrence said of the candidates. “And we’re thrilled.”

Kreisler, a longtime member of the Castaic Lions Club, said he wanted to join the council so he can help be the “eyes and ears” of the community for the county.

He also said he wants to make sure Castaic and the surrounding areas maintain their small community feel.

“People are happy living here because they feel like they’re more part of a community and not part of a metropolis,” he said.

In a statement declaring her candidacy Faulconer, a Realtor, describes herself as a 28-year resident of the Santa Clarita Valley and a 12-year resident of Castaic.

“Castaic is my home and I believe that every Castaic resident should feel pride in his or her community,” she wrote.

“I want to live up to that responsibility and contribute to a safe and prosperous Castaic community.”
