A 20-year-old Hart High School graduate described by friends as a vibrant and intelligent young woman died suddenly this week, officials said Tuesday.

Nelly Khajavi died Sunday at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, coroner’s Lt. Cheryl MacWillie said Tuesday.

Khajavi studied physics in high school but was also a music lover and entertainer, having appeared with the school’s show choir, The Hart Breakers, in local performances.

She attended the University of California Irvine after graduating from high school.

Her Facebook page contains many photos of a smiling Nelly Khajavi surrounded by friends.

The circumstances surrounding her death were under investigation, MacWillie said Tuesday.

“She was really smart and she had a lot of potential,” said one young woman who attended school with her and asked not to be identified.

Khajavi’s relatives were still struggling with the news of her death when reached at a family member’s home in Canyon Country Tuesday, according to one woman contacted there.

Khajavi’s brother, Navid, spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Hart High School under basketball coach Tom Kelly.
