A motorcyclist was seriously injured and taken to the hospital Sunday morning following a single vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near Calgrove Boulevard, emergency response officials said.

Shortly before 9 a.m. Sunday, officials with the California Highway Patrol received reports of a motorcyclist down in the freeway’s northbound fast lane, a CHP spokeswoman said.

“We got the call as a solo vehicle crash and as an 11-80 meaning it was major injuries,” she said.

Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department found a motorcyclist in the “number one” or fast lane of the northbound interstate, said Fire Department Inspector Kyle Sanford.

“We transported one patient to Henry Mayo (Newhall Memorial Hospital),” he said.

CHP officers shut down the fast lane and the two adjacent lanes for more than 20 minutes while emergency crews treated the injured motorcyclist, then reopened all but the fast lane to traffic at 9:30 a.m., the CHP spokeswoman said.

All traffic resumed at 10:19 a.m., she said.
