WRIGHTWOOD, Calif. (AP) — U.S. Forest Service officials say a wildfire near Wrightwood in the San Gabriel Mountains is burning 45 acres and several mountain communities are being evacuated ahead of flames.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at around noon Thursday, but their ground access is limited because of rough terrain.

Sheriff's officials say homes along several winding mountain roads are being evacuated. It was unclear how many homes or residents are affected.

Wrightwood is a mountain community popular with skiers located about 40 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
