Santa Clarita has received the go-ahead to annex more than 200 acres of undeveloped land near Sand Canyon, a move a city official says will bring more open space and potential residential development into the city.

The Norland-Robinson Ranch Annexation received approval from the Los Angeles County Local Agency Formation Commission on Wednesday, according to city Associate Planner Patrick Leclair.

The annexation adds 204.32 acres to the city, 50 of which are open space owned by the city and about 80 that are expected to house a future residential development, according to Leclair.

That project would add about 40 estate-style homes on the land, Leclair said.

The annexation area is located generally south of Highway 14 and east of Lost Canyon Road, according to documents.

The city has one other annexation project pending, Leclair said, which would bring in land north of the recently completed North Copper Hill annexation area.

That project, which Leclair said will hopefully be completed later this year, would also bring additional movie ranch land into the city.

Earlier this year the city absorbed the Rancho Deluxe, Rancho Maria and Sable Ranch movie ranches in Canyon Country with completion of the South Sand Canyon annexation.
