Silents Under the Stars" will be held 6 p.m. Saturday at Hart Hall at William S. Hart Park in Newhall.

The annual fundraiser to benefit the Friends of Hart Park will include a William S. Hart silent film, a BBQ dinner, silent auction and Western music.

Guests will also be able to tour the William S. Hart Mansion and Museum located on the hill above Hart Hall.

"This year we are pleased to announce that the featured silent film is a hard to find William S. Hart film, ‘Cradle of Courage,’" said Sherron Blowers, a member of the Friends of Hart Park.

The film is the story of a WWI veteran who returns home from the battlefields of France and finds he must face some tough decisions about the "family business."

"Cradle of Courage" was made in 1920. Hart, who made more than 70 silent films, mostly Westerns, retired from acting in 1925.

"We will also be showing another classic western short film, ‘The Making of Broncho Billy’ by one of Bill Hart’s western contemporaries, Broncho Billy Anderson," said Blowers.

The 1913 short film was shot in the San Francisco Bay area.

The films will be shown in the backyard of Hart Hall on a large screen, under the stars, with live musical accompaniment by Ray Lowe.

Film introductions will be made by projectionist and film preservationist David Shepard.

Shepard, founder of Film Preservation Associates, provides the films and the projection equipment which makes the fundraiser possible.

Western music by the "All Digital String Band" will be offered during the social hour and dinner.

The silent auction will feature a photograph on canvas (artist proof) "Dances Like Butterfly" by Pulitzer Prize winner Ken Lubas, a rare William S. Hart book "Pinto Ben", an "Elite Islands" Caribbean vacation, Disneyland tickets, restaurant gift cards and more.

Tickets are $50 per person.
