The 17th annual Heart of The West dinner, auction and children’s riding demonstration to benefit Carousel Ranch, will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at Agua Dulce Airport.

This year’s event will be presented by Princess Cruises, which will also donate a cruise to be auctioned off during the evening.

The event will also include a live and silent auction with numerous items.

Carousel Ranch provides equestrian therapy to the disabled.

"Therapeutic riding achieves improved coordination, muscle strength, joint mobility, perceptual skills and self confidence," said Denise Tomey-Redmond, executive director of Carousel Ranch. "Almost every disabled person can benefit from therapeutic riding. We have seen major benefits for our riders who have come to us with disabilities that range from cerebral palsy, mental retardation, autism, brain injury, stroke, learning disorders, and emotional problems."

Tickets for Heart of the West are $85 for general seating and $175 for VIP seating.

Salt Creek Grille catering will be providing the evening’s dinner.

In addition to Heart of the West Carousel Ranch is also raising funds through a capital campaign to provide a covered riding arena.

In 2012, more than 450 sessions were canceled due to heat or rain, said Tomey-Redmond.

"A covered arena would make it possible for the ranch to serve children year-round despite inclement weather," she said.
