DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — A school bookkeeper says she came face-to-face with a gunman at an Atlanta-area elementary school and talked him into surrendering after he fired shots at police.

Antoinette Tuff, a bookkeeper at McNair Discovery Learning Academy in Decatur, Ga., told WSB-TV Tuesday that 20-year-old Michael Brandon Hall slipped into the building after a parent who had been buzzed in. She says he told her to call a local media outlet to let them know he was prepared to kill police officers and wanted to commit suicide.

Tuff says she talked to him about her own struggles and convinced him to put his gun and ammunition on the counter and surrender.

She says Hill also asked her to use the public address system to tell everyone in the school he was sorry for the disturbance.
