Honoring America’s veterans essay deadline extended

Fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders eligible to enter Vietnam War history contest

SANTA CLARITA - Organizers of an essay contest for fourth- fifth- and sixth-graders to honor the arrival of the traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Santa Clarita Valley have extended the deadline by one week.

Students now have until Sept. 9 to submit their essays answering the question “Why was the Vietnam War important to America?”

In addition, students may submit their entries electronically to The Signal at The Signal will publish entries to the contest on merits with the student’s name included.

Please also include the student’s address. It will not be published.

Electronic entries submitted to The Signal must be submitted as Word document attachments.

All submissions must be 500-700 words long.

Essays may also be submitted single-sided, double-spaced and typed on 8 1/2-by-11 inch paper at any public libraries in Santa Clarita, Stevenson Ranch, Castaic or Acton/Agua Dulce.

Winners will be selected by mid-September, and their essays will be published in The Signal.

All essays become the property of the Friendly Valley Veterans Club and will not be returned.
