The eighth rabid bat discovered in the Santa Clarita Valley was found clinging to the side of a garage in Santa Clarita, county officials said.

The find made within the last two weeks was the third this month. Three rabid bats were also found during July, including two in the driveway of the same Santa Clarita home, according to a report from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

Two other bats were found this month elsewhere in the county, including one found alive outdoors in Altadena and one found dead on a balcony in Covina.

The Santa Clarita Valley continues to see the most reported cases of rabies in bats, accounting for eight of the 21 confirmed cases in Los Angeles County.

At least one rabid bat has been found in the Santa Clarita Valley each month since the first reported instance in May, according to county officials.

Residents are urged to stay away from and report bats acting strangely, such as flying around in sunlight or lying on the ground.

Residents who observe such behavior are encouraged to call the Department of Animal Care and Control at 661-257-3191.
