SANTA CLARITA - Two lanes of the southbound Interstate 5 were closed down for about five hours Friday morning in Newhall, along with the Pico Canyon Road off-ramp, due to a collision and fuel spill, California Highway Patrol officials said.

A pickup truck pulling an empty horse trailer rear-ended a big rig that was hauling aluminum, causing the fuel spill and injuring one person, said CHP Officer Ed Jacobs.

The collision occurred about 3 a.m. and kept the two freeway lanes closed until about 8 a.m., Jacobs said. One person was taken to a local hospital with injuries.
