SANTA CLARITA - Services are scheduled Saturday for Doris May Boydston, a longtime Santa Clarita Valley resident and mother of a Santa Clarita City Councilman and a Valencia High School teacher.

She died Aug. 13 at the age of 92 while surrounded by family and friends.

Doris May Boydston first moved to Canyon Country with her husband, Wayne, in 1960.

Born in 1920 in Minneapolis, Boydston was a nurse for some 50 years, serving in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps.

She also spent a decade as an industrial nurse for the Bermite Powder Company in Saugus and almost as long as a psychiatric nurse for Palmdale Hospital.

Boydston was the mother of eight children, including City Councilman TimBen Boydston and Valencia High School teacher Janet Feeder.

“She was an incredible person and she touched a lot of lives of people in the Santa Clarita Valley,” TimBen Boydston said Friday.

Remembering her as a woman of conviction, strength and faith, TimBen Boydston said his mother taught him the value of hard work and self-reliance.

“That’s the kind of attitude that my parents instilled in us children,” he said.

Feeder said her mother also instilled in her children a “love for life and a love for God’s creation.”

“She was just very compassionate about people — she loved people,” Feeder said Friday. “Even with her last breath I think she was praying for others.”

Doris May Boydston is survived by four sons, three daughters, 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is schedule for 10 a.m. Saturday at The Church on the Way in Valencia, where she was an active member.
