Last week, the following Part 1 crimes occurred in Canyon Country East:

(1) Aggravated Assault, (5) Residential Burglaries, (3) Vehicle Burglaries, (2) Grand Thefts, (1) Petty Theft:

An aggravated assault occurred near Sierra Hwy/American Beauty Dr. The subject threw a rock at the victim. The victim did not sustain any major injuries. The case is being investigated by Santa Clarita station detectives.

Over the past week the number of vehicle burglaries has decreased. Although they have decreased there were still 3 in Zone 8. The burglaries are still occurring in the Jakes Way area. The items were taken from center consoles and the trunks of the vehicles. Residents should continue to make sure that they are not leaving valuables in plain sight in their vehicles. We also had two thefts from unlocked vehicles in Zone 8. In both thefts, the drivers forgot to lock their vehicles and items were taken from their cars.

There were two Hot Prowl residential burglaries reported this week. The first occurred near Sand Canyon Rd and Lost Canyon. The homeowner heard glass shattering near the kitchen area of his home. He went to his kitchen area to investigate and saw the suspect standing in his kitchen. The homeowner retrieved his firearm and confronted the suspect in the kitchen area. A shot was fired at the suspect who then fled the home. The suspect took two purses from the house. The suspect has not been identified at this time. If you have any information regarding this incident please contact Santa Clarita station detectives.

An additional Hot Prowl burglary occurred in the Jakes Way area. The victims came home to find their front door kicked in. As they entered the house two male suspects were seen running from their apartment. The suspects stole a Toshiba laptop computer.
Deputies arrested a male suspect for possessing items that were taken during a vehicle burglary in the Jakes Way area. The suspect was in possession of a stolen wallet from the burglarized vehicle.
