An autopsy on a body found burning near Castaic Lake may have been performed Saturday, but no new information regarding the possible identity of the body has been released, according to officials.

The body was found burning near Castaic Lake on Wednesday in roughly the same area where 19-year-old college student Bryce Laspisa was last seen.

Though the body has been identified as that of a male, officials say it is still too early to tell if the two cases are related.

“I believe the autopsy was performed today,” said an inspector in the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.
The inspector said she could not release any additional information on the case.

Deputy Irys Alvarez with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said as of Saturday night there is no update on the identity of the body. She also could not confirm whether an autopsy was performed Saturday.

Alvarez said search efforts for Laspisa are still active and ongoing and that search and rescue teams have been combing different areas for any sign of him.

Laspisa was last seen more than a week ago. His crashed SUV was found at the bottom of a ravine near the Castaic Lake Main Boat Ramp on Aug. 30.

Since then, sheriff’s officials have been conducting an active search for him, including using dive teams to search the lake.
