SANTA CLARITA - A former Los Angeles Police Department officer who was arrested in May for molesting two young girls in his Castaic home has pleaded no contest to two felony charges and been sentenced to three years in state prison.

Former Officer Miguel Angel Schiappapietra Jr., 28, of Castaic appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday and entered a plea of no contest to the felony charge of committing a lewd act on a child and the felony charge of attempting a lewd act on another child, said Shiara Davila-Morales of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

He was sentenced to three years in state prison and will also be required to register as a sex offender, Davila-Morales said.

The six-year veteran of the LAPD was arrested at his Castaic home on May 18 after two girls, both under the age of 10, told detectives he had sexually molested them, according to prosecutors.

Four days after his arrest, Schiappapietra posted bail.

While out of custody and awaiting a preliminary hearing, he resigned from the LAPD.

Schiappapietra is expected to remain in custody at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles until he is transferred to a state prison, said a spokesman for the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
