On posting and exclamation marks

I am noted for my exclamation marks in ending a sentence when I submit a letter to the editor to the SCV Signal, which seems to annoy some posters.

I do this only to empathize what I think is important or an idea that I have or a warning on safety.

At times I have been hesitant to submit a letter to the editor in fear of getting demeaned or ridiculed for my opinion and for such a trivial exclamation mark.

As I write this letter, I’m biting my tongue trying to avoid using the exclamation mark.

When the letters to the editor or the Opinion columns are not published for days, which is rare, I go into a withdrawal mode. Nothing to worry about except I’m disappointed that I can’t comment on such letters or opinion columns.

Everyone has a right to his or her opinion, and the posters who comment on the LTE have their opinions, and that is healthy, but when the comments are not nice and downright nasty, again getting back to the demeaning and ridiculing part, it’s not satisfying to put out the effort to submit a letter to the editor.

The SCV Signal guidelines and parameters for submitting a letter or an opinion column is to persuade by logical and reasoned arguments, and that is sensible, logical and reasonable.

Hoping that the potential letter writers will jump in and get their feet wet.

PS: I’m a Santa Clarita resident and loving it and person who uses exclamation marks and loving it!
