SANTA CLARITA - Relatives of a missing Burbank man whose car was found Sunday in a remote section of the Angeles National Forest will have to wait about two months to find out if the bones found next to the crash site belonged to their loved one.

“We don’t even how we’re going to get through it,” said Anna Akilyan, whose brother Gevork Boyadzhyan was reported missing July 20.

Deputies with the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station in La Crescenta located the abandoned car Sunday some 400 feet down a ravine at mile marker 65 on the sometimes-treacherous Angeles Crest Highway.

Coroner’s investigators and homicide detectives were on the scene Monday. Detectives confirmed Tuesday the car belonged to Boyadzhyan, and a coroner’s spokesman said identifying the badly decomposed body will take some time.

“Right now it’s a Doe,” said Coroner’s Office Assistant Chief Ed Winter. “We can’t say even if its male or female. All we’ve got are bones. We don’t know how long they’ve been there.”

For Akilyan and the rest of Boyadzhyan’s family, not knowing only prolongs their suffering.

“I cannot describe it,” Akilyan told The Signal Tuesday. “For two months we knew nothing and now, for another two months, we won’t know.”

Akilyan, who spoke with detectives Tuesday, was referring to the time it will likely take for the coroner to receive the results of DNA testing on the body.

“We cannot comment on any connection between the two incidents,” Sgt. Darren Ryburn of the Burbank Police Department said Tuesday, referring to the discovery of a body and the discovery of Boyadzhyan’s car.

“His vehicle has been located and the family is aware of that,” he said. “We have to treat it as a crime scene. So right now, we’re waiting on the coroner.”

Boyadzhyan, who was last seen leaving his Burbank home July 20 in a white 2010 Lexus. was reported missing July 24.
