Hart volleyball calm and consistent

Three solid, consistent games is all any coach can ask for of a volleyball team.

Hart Indians girls volleyball head coach Mary Keen was pleased to see that with her young squad on Tuesday against Chaminade.

Junior outside hitter Corrine Holloway had 11 kills and four blocks to lead Hart to a 3-0 win over Chaminade at Hart High by scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-22.

“We’re improving and keeping track of all our errors and we’re starting to chip away at our total errors for matches and that’s a positive thing,” Keen said.

After a somewhat up-and-down summer, Keen said the team is looking vastly improved now that it has a steady starting lineup.

That lineup is made up mostly of new players after five starter from 2012 graduated.

Halloway is one of those new starter, as is fellow junior Brooke Boron, who added six kills and eight blocks from the middle blocker position on Tuesday.

Hart libero Shelly Peer added 17 digs and three aces.

“Tonight was the first night where I did have sort of a starting lineup, and it seemed like it worked out pretty well,” Keen said.

In the first game, Hart (2-1) broke free from a back-and-forth battle to take an 18-10 lead and eventually ran away with the game.

The Indians jumped out to a 5-1 lead in game two and didn’t look back. Chaminade (1-5) had a chance to steal game three with a 17-15 lead, but Hart rallied back to complete the sweep.
