Do your duty

We have just had another mass shooting and gun control advocates are all over it but maybe it would never have happened if someone in the Navy had done their job.

Aaron Alexis was a problem when he was in the United States Navy with eight instances of misconduct including insubordination, disorderly conduct, unauthorized absence from work and drunkenness. Instead of pursuing charges for his misconduct the Navy took the easy way out and let him leave with an honorable discharge when a general discharge was being considered.

If Mr. Alexis was given a general discharge he wouldn’t have been able to get security clearance to work at the Washington Navy Yard. Having access to parking on the base allowed him to bring in a shotgun in his car which he used to attack security personnel at the entrance of the building and strip their weapons which he used in his rampage.

The whole incident might never have happened if someone in the Navy had done their duty and undertaken the distasteful task of pursuing a general discharge for Aaron Alexis.
