SANTA CLARITA - One of two men sought in last week’s stabbing of a Newhall man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and the other is expected to be arrested soon, a sheriff’s detective said Monday.

Daniel Constantino, 20, of Canyon Country, was arrested Friday afternoon without incident. He remains in custody without bail, charged with felony attempted murder.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Dean Currie said Constantino’s arrest was the result of “getting everybody’s statements together.” The second suspect is identified, he said, and detectives expect to make an arrest in the next couple of days.

“Either tomorrow or the next day we expect to make an arrest,” he said Monday, noting detectives want to file their case against Constantino with the D.A.’s office first.

The victim, a 25-year-old Canyon Country man whose name has not been released, spent several days at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in critical condition after undergoing emergency surgery, Currie said last week.

He was attacked in Newhall on Sept. 15 after his car was intentionally rammed by that of his attacker. He was stabbed after the collision, according to local sheriff’s officials.

The attack was believed to be gang related or the result of a road rage incident.

Constantino is scheduled to appear in San Fernando Superior Court Tuesday.
