Signal Multimedia is inviting the public to contribute personalized stories, columns and photos depicting families in the Santa Clarita Valley for a new weekly Our Community section.

The rewards and challenges of raising a family can be inspiring, fun or serve as a real-life lesson for other readers.

Story areas might cover topics such as coping as a single parent, the struggle of a two-working-parent family, military parents, coping with special-needs children, serving as an adoptive or foster parent, operating blended families, multiple births or just plain addressing the challenges and needs of families today.

A contributor might describe creative ways of raising children, making ends meet, entertaining or educating children — or tell the tale of families coming together to support each other in times of need.

We believe readers would like to hear community voices — and learn from them — in the new section.

In a twist on the age-old news model in which the media reports items it believes to be important to the community at large, Signal Multimedia is launching the new section to give people in the SCV a platform for describing what they believe makes their own community special.

Topics will cover the gamut from faith, to families, education, social causes, the arts, and first-person narratives in which writers can share their own inspiring, heartfelt stories or photos.

Stories and photos on events, milestones and issues submitted by people who want to put a special spotlight on their own community will be published in print and online, alongside with feature stories written by Signal staff members in the new section. All contributors will be given credit for their material whether stories, columns or photos.

Each week we’ll focus on different communities within the SCV.

Content can be submitted to, or call 661-287-5599 or 661-287-5593 for more information.
