Valencia High junior baseball player Devin Davis verbally committed to Loyola Marymount University this week, his father Darrell confirmed.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound first baseman is highly rated national hitting prospect in his class, according to Perfect Game, a high school baseball scouting website.

Davis will be joining former Valencia teammate J.D. Busfield, who will be playing for Loyola Marymount this coming spring.

“I am so excited to play for a great school like Loyola Marymount University,” Davis said in an email. “I like the fact that I get to play close to home and to be able to play with my teammate from last year.”

Davis has played for Valencia’s varsity baseball team the past two years. Last spring, he batted .268 with two home runs and 10 RBIs. He was a .208 hitter as a freshman.

His Perfect Game profile describes the right-handed hitter as a strong, athletic player with raw power and a lot of potential.

Davis, whose father is a former Saugus High player, is coming off foot surgery in the summer and is scheduled to return to the field in November.

Loyola Marymount is an NCAA Division I team which finished 24-27 overall last season and 12-12 for fifth place in the West Coast Conference.
