Firefighters get jump on Gorman brush fire

Firefighters prepared for a wind-driven fire season got the jump on a small brush fire near Gorman Sunday morning, an inspector for the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

About 10:45 a.m. Sunday, more than 100 firefighters responded to a car fire that spread to nearby brush on Quail Lake Road near Pine Canyon Road, said Inspector Tony Imbrenda.

Shortly before noon, the fire was contained to half an acre.  “We’re making good progress,” Imbrenda said.

Since this is fire season in Southern California and that it’s windy today, fire officials have firefighting “strike teams pre-positioned” in the area which include fire engines and water-drumping helicopters.

“We have pre-positioned resources already in place,” Imbrenda said.  “Fire experts come to a determination based on what the weather is.”

Today’s winds are a “big reason” firefighters moved particularly quickly responding to this morning’s brush fire, he said.
