SANTA CLARITA - A Saugus man arrested on suspicion he concealed the whereabouts of a 17-year-old girl struggling with drug abuse has been sentenced to five years probation after pleading no contest to a lesser crime, according to court officials and documents.

Christopher Sen Guthrie, 18, appeared Thursday in San Fernando Superior Court where he sentenced to a five years probation and told to enrol in a 365-day drug treatment program, a bailiff told The Signal.

Guthrie has remained in custody on $125,000 bail since his arrest Sept. 4 for allegedly concealing a juvenile. He was also charged with maintaining a place for the purpose of using a controlled substance and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

On Sept. 18, he entered a plea of no contest to one count of possession of a controlled substance, said District Attorney spokeswoman Shiara Dávila-Morales.

The juvenile girl, who was abusing opiates, ran away from a drug rehabilitation program July 31 and disappeared until Aug. 3, when Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies found her inside Guthrie’s Saugus home.

The girl was under the influence of narcotics when she was found, Deputy Josh Dubin said, and was taken to Sylmar Juvenile Hall.

With the assistance of the missing girl’s mother, deputies discovered the teenager had been staying with Guthrie at his home for a number of days.

The investigation was turned over to the local sheriff’s Juvenile Intervention Team, which concluded Guthrie knowingly kept the missing 17-year-old away from her mother and allowed her to stay in his home knowing that she was using narcotics.
