SANTA CLARITA - A registered sex offender accused of annoying a young girl at a local department store has been ordered to stand trial for his alleged crime, court officials said Tuesday.

Yale Joseph Yurman, 70, of Valencia appeared Friday in San Fernando Superior Court and was arraigned on a felony charge of annoying a girl, a court clerk said Tuesday.

Trial is set for Nov. 7.

Sheriff’s detectives arrested Yurman on June 19 after investigating reports of a man following a young girl and videotaping her while she was walking around inside Target on Magic Mountain Parkway in Valencia.

Detectives working with Target’s loss prevention personnel were able to identify the suspect as Yale Yurman, one of the more than 50 registered sex offenders living in the Santa Clarita Valley.

They subsequently served a search warrant on his house in the 23700 block of Hickory Court in Valencia.

Inside they found what they said is evidence showing Yurman following young girls and videotaping them on several occasions at three locations in the Santa Clarita Valley: Target, Walmart and Real Life Church in Valencia.

They also found evidence of Yurman allegedly following girls on the Santa Monica pier, deputies reported.

Yurman was charged July 10 on suspicion of having annoyed a child, a felony, with bail set at $1 million.
