The manhunt for a suspected kidnapper wanted in the abduction of a woman in the Santa Clarita Valley culminated Wednesday morning with deputies finding the victim in Sunland.

The suspect, however, remained at large. He was described as the victim’s ex-boyfriend, but neither the name of the victim nor the suspect was released, said a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputy.

Reports of a woman being kidnapped came in about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Old Road and McBean Parkway, said Deputy Josh Dubin.

“Deputies made contact with the victim’s family, who told them they had received phone calls from their loved one who indicated she had been kidnapped,” he said.

When deputies learned the victim had last been in the Sunland area they contacted deputies with the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“I know about the call because I was on it,” Sgt. Kimberly Mendoza of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station told The Signal Wednesday.

“There were a lot of deputies out looking,” she said. “We didn’t have a whole lot to go on.”

Nevertheless, Crescenta Valley deputies found the victim in her car in the Sunland area early Wednesday morning.

“Deputies discovered the suspect had fled the area when the vehicle apparently ran out of gas,” said Dubin.

The victim had only minor injuries and was not hospitalized.

The search continues for the suspect, whom deputies are not naming, pending further investigation, Dubin said.

Anyone who may have witnessed this crime, or who has information regarding this incident, is asked to contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121.
