A two-year-old girl was rushed to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Sunday morning after she was reported unconscious at a soccer game in Newhall, said officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Fire Department paramedics responded to reports of an unconscious child at the Placerita Junior High School soccer field on 16th Street at Newhall Avenue, said Inspector Al Jackson.

“We got the call as a child unconscious,” he said. “We transported one patient to an area hospital.”

The girl was conscious when paramedics with Newhall Fire Station #73 arrived at the soccer field, said Captain Ray Nutt.

However, the unidentified girl was still in need of medical attention, said an official with the American Youth Soccer Organization.

“She was a spectator’s child,” said AYSO Coach Administrator Robert Benavidez. “It wasn’t a player but if someone is need of medical help — especially a little girl — we’re going to get help.

“Fortunately, one of our coaches is a trained nurse and she assisted the girl and called 9-1-1,” he said.

Teen players representing more than half a dozen local AYSO teams, were competing Sunday in championship games held on the last day of the regular season, he said.
