CIF Playoff Brackets Released

Prep sports: Santa Clarita Valley sports programs prepare for the postseason as draws are released

An undefeated season and a Foothill League championship earned Hart girls tennis the No. 4 seed in the CIF-Southern Section Division II playoff bracket, which was released Monday.

In the first round of the playoffs on Wednesday, the 17-0 Hart Indians will play host to the winner of Tuesday’s Chadwick vs. Temple City wild-card match.

As the fourth seed, Hart won’t have to play a higher seed until a potential matchup against No. 1 seed San Marino in the semifinals.

Three other Foothill League girls tennis teams also made it into the Division II playoff bracket while Trinity Classical Academy football also learned its playoff fate on Monday.

In the tennis bracket, Foothill No. 2 Valencia (15-4) will host Poly High of Pasadena (12-3) in the first round on Wednesday.

Coming in at third place in league, West Ranch (9-6) earned a spot in the Division II wild-card round, where it will go on the road to face Crescenta Valley (9-5) on Tuesday.

After finishing fourth place in Foothill, Saugus (11-6) gained an at-large bid into Tuesday’s wild-card round, where it will travel to face Santa Monica (5-4).

If West Ranch and Saugus win their wild-card matchups, both will move to the first round the following day. All playoff matches are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. unless otherwise agreed upon by coaches.

The other bracket released Monday revealed that Trinity football will get a first-round bye in the CIF-SS 8-man Division II playoffs after being deemed the No. 3 seed.

Trinity (7-2) won’t have to play again until Nov. 15, when it will host the winner of California Lutheran (3-6) vs. Noli Indian (9-0).

Those two teams play on Friday.

Trinity finished second in the Heritage League behind Joshua Springs. which was tabbed as the No. 1 seed in the bracket.
