Hijacking of Owens Valley water not something to celebrate

The 100-mule journey that came through the Santa Clarita Valley this week is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the arrival of Owens Valley water into the San Fernando Valley.

This would be better stated: the 100th anniversary of the destruction of the Owens Valley and beyond.

One must only observe the shoreline of Mono Lake to see further damage to this ancient lake with the many tufa towers high and dry.

Also, the notion is misguided that the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has done everyone a favor by keeping development out of lots of the Owens Valley.

Would it not have been better to have had some development in the Owens Valley instead of the vast destruction that one can easily see for many miles along Highway 395?

The state of California would be much the better if the LADWP was completely out of the Owens Valley!
