On Monday, November 11, 2013, a group of 13 college students were hiking near “Hermit Flats” in the Angeles National Forest, when a group of them decided to jump into a pool of water from the adjacent rocks. The victim was the sixth person to jump.

After the victim jumped, he appeared on the surface but appeared to be unconscious. Several people from the group pulled the victim from the water and began C.P.R. Others in the group attempted to use their cellular telephones to call for help.

L.A County Fire responded and subsequently air lifted the victim to Huntington Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
