Santa Clarita City Council members voted this week to authorize council elections on April 8, 2014.

The move officially sets the date for the election, which will see the seats of three council members up for grabs. Those elected will serve four-year terms.

The filing period for candidates interested in running for City Council opens Dec. 16 and runs until 5 p.m. on Jan. 10.

If any incumbent up for re-election does not file by the deadline, the filing period for his or her seat will be extended until Jan. 15.

Incumbents Marsha McLean and Laurene Weste have said they will seek re-election. Councilman Frank Ferry has said he will not.
