Thank you SF, Batkid

We have long acknowledged San Francisco’s ability to give us a break from the norms of sanity and force us to react to some new oddity that defies or defiles conventional wisdoms.

The antics of the City by the Bay create calls to retest the water — or to jettison the whole place into the sea.

Sometimes this is done in great fun, but mostly it happens with anguished consternation.

Recently San Francisco was at it again — only with a much different outcome.

As the nation is burdened with the daily drubbing of Obamacare catastrophes, a growing nuclear threat in the

Mideast, an economy that is growing on paper but not where we work, what do we get from the Bay Area?
Batkid. Yep, Batkid.

In one of the most refreshing respites in a long time, the Make-A-Wish Foundation turned San Francisco into Gotham City and a 5-year-old cancer-surviving kid named Miles Scott into a super hero for a day.
The San Francisco Chronicle published a Gotham City Chronicle Special Edition with a headline that shouted “Batkid Saves Gotham City” and detailed Miles’ heroism.

The chief of Police and local media issued a plea for help, “Please, Caped Crusader, we need you.” And Batman, Batkid and a borrowed black Lamborghini foiled an attempted bank robbery by the Riddler.

A band of concerned citizens alerted Batkid and Batman during a lunchtime hamburger break that the San Francisco Giants’ mascot, Lou Seal, had been nabbed by the ruthless Penguin.

After a hot pursuit around AT&T Park the Penguin was apprehended and turned over to authorities.

Then Batkid got to run the bases, cheered on by an adoring crowd.

Over 12,000 volunteers joined in to help give Miles Scott, the city and even the nation an uplifting break — just when we really needed one.

Thank you, San Francisco. Thank you, Miles.
