Hart graduate Matt Ryan advanced to golf’s Qualifying School finals on Friday while Saugus graduate Nick Delio came up short.

Ryan, a 27-year-old former College of the Canyons and Fresno State golfer, finished as the medalist at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brookeville, Fla. with a four-round score of 17-under.

He recorded rounds of 64, 67, 71 and a 69 on Friday on the par-72 course.

Ryan will compete at the Q-School final stage in La Quinta from Dec. 12-17.

Delio ended up 2-over and tied for 24th after four rounds at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta. He needed to finish 20th or better to advance.

This marks the third straight year Delio has reached the second stage of Q-School but failed to move on to the finals.

Delio, 24, graduated from Cal State Northridge in 2011 after a four-year golfing career at the school.

The third Santa Clarita Valley participant at Q-School this year is Valencia graduate Max Homa.

Homa, 22, qualified last week when he finished tied for 16th at Deerwood Golf Club in Kingwood, Texas.

This is his first attempt at Q-School as he recently finished a four-year career at the University of California, Berkeley and turned professional in October.

Both Homa and Ryan will have a chance to earn their Tour cards for the 2014 season if they perform well enough at the Q-School finals next month.

The Tour is the most direct pipeline to the sport’s most elite circuit, the PGA Tour.
