The season had to end at some point.

Seventeen days after the start of the girls tennis postseason, the Hart Indians can finally put a bow on their historic 2013 season.

Hart lost 5-2 to Campbell Hall on Friday at The Claremont Club in the second round of the CIF Southern California Regional Championship tournament.

The concludes a 21-2 season for the Indians, who also made a run to the CIF-Southern Section Division II semifinals before bowing out last week.

“What can you say?” said Hart head coach Chris Mansfield. “It was a great season. It was a long season. It was very exciting.”

Following Hart’s deep run in the Southern Section playoffs, the team was invited to participate in the state regional tournament.

On Tuesday, the Indians beat Palisades High 5-2 in the opening round to set up Friday’s match to extend its school record for wins in a season.

Campbell Hall came in as the bracket’s No. 5 seed after advancing to the CIF-SS Division I semifinals.

Hart was the No. 13 seed in the 16-team bracket.

Against Campbell Hall, Hart’s usually stellar singles lineup managed just one victory

The match was played in a best-of-three-sets format with four total singles matchups and three doubles.

Proyfon Lohaphaisan beat Campbell Hall’s Joy Kim in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, in the No. 2 singles spot.

In the No. 1 singles matchup, Natalia Munoz lost to Texas Christian University-bound Alexis Pereira 6-1, 6-2.

Playing her final high school tennis match, Hart senior Jackie Resler fell short against Risa Fukushige, 6-1, 6-2.

Hart’s Zobia Quraishi filled in for a missing Cassie Wilkinson in the No. 4 singles spot, losing 6-3, 6-5 to Brooke Elconin.

“I thought there was a chance to win it,” Mansfield said. “The first half hour, with the first sets, they all seemed pretty close.”

Hart’s only other win of the day came from the Indians’ No. 3 doubles team of Sheridan Mott and Alex LaForteza, who won 6-3, 6-7 (7-2), 6-4.

The Hart pairings of Lauren Dam and Bailey Sindle along with Madison Ladanyi and Carissa Constanzo both fell short.

Due to their performances at the Foothill League tournament, Lohaphaisan, Dam and Sindle will participate in the CIF-Southern Section Individual Sectionals beginning Monday in Carpinteria.

Lohaphaisan is participating in the singles tournament and Dam and Sindle are competing as a doubles team.
