A look back at the crimes reported in the Newhall area last week.

A felony assault report was taken at the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station on Monday the 18th. The victim reported he was assaulted at a party on October 5th, someplace on 15th Street near Chestnut Avenue.

If you were a witness to the assault, or a witness to any crime, you can report it to the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station at (661)255-1121. If you would like to remain anonymous, you can call “Crime Stoppers” at (800)222-TIPS (8477), or online at

On Monday the 18th, at 8:15 p.m., a suspect was arrested for residential burglary in the 24900 block of Wheeler Drive. The 24 year old female suspect was charged and is awaiting court proceedings.

On Wednesday the 20th, at 3:10 a.m., a commercial burglary occurred in the 24300 block of Main Street. A possible suspect may have been visible on surveillance video nearby. The incident is currently being investigated by station detectives.

On Thursday the 14th, an elderly resident on Arcadia Street was phone scammed out of $6,200. A caller claimed the victim’s grandson was in jail in Mexico, and the victim was convinced to send the money.

Be aware of phone scams. The callers can be very convincing, and often have personal information about you or your loved ones. The caller will claim a loved one is in some kind of immediate peril and require a payment. Some callers will impersonate a government agency or law enforcement. They will try to convince you there is a fine or money owed, and require an immediate payment, or risk being arrested, or having property seized. Unfortunately the victims are often our elderly parents or grandparents.

On Thursday the 21st, between 12:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m., a residential burglary occurred in the 21300 of Ficus Drive. The garage was left open, and personal property was stolen.

Be sure to close and lock your doors when you are not around. Even if it is only for a short period of time.
