MOORPARK (AP) — Crews are dealing with an onslaught of Santa Ana Winds as they work to keep flames from a wildfire away from homes in Ventura County.

Ventura County Fire spokesman Bill Nash says the blaze was sparked about 2 a.m. Tuesday near a housing development, ranching property and a golf course in Moorpark.

Nash says so far strong winds are moving the flames to the north, away from structures. About 50 acres of dry brush has burned. There is no containment.

Crews are waiting for sunup to deploy two water-dropping helicopters.

About 75 firefighters are on the scene, with more on the way.

A wind advisory is in effect for the area until midnight Tuesday, with gusts as high as 35 mph expected.
