SANTA CLARITA - Local sheriff’s deputies are investigating a shooting in Canyon Country that left a Palmdale couple shaken and concerned, a deputy said.

A 34-year-old Palmdale woman was driving her silver-colored 2008 Nissan north on Sierra Highway approaching Sand Canyon Road about 4:50 p.m. Thursday when she “heard a loud bang that she believed to be a gunshot,” a deputy with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station reported in an incident log maintained at the station.

No one was hurt in the incident, Deputy Josh Dubin said Monday.

“Our deputies are looking into it still,” Dubin said. “This is an active investigation.”

The case is being investigated as the discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle. The incident occurred within a half mile of the Mint Canyon Community Elementary School.

As soon as the shot hit the car and shattered the driver’s-side rear window, the driver pulled over onto Sand Canyon Road, deputies wrote in their report, stopping near Sierra Heights Mobile Home Estates.

Deputies interviewed both the driver and the passenger in the damaged car. The passenger was a 45-year-old Palmdale man.

“The (passenger) victim stated while sitting in the front passenger seat he heard a gunshot. He heard glass shattering. He looked over his left shoulder and saw the rear driver-side window had been shattered,” deputies reported.

The passenger asked the mobile home park property manager to call 911, according to deputies.

Investigators reported: “We saw the shattered driver-side rear window (but) we were unable to locate any additional bullet holes inside the car’s passenger compartment.”
