SANTA CLARITA - A funeral procession Wednesday morning for Fire Captain John David Mazzocco, from Grace Baptist Church to Eternal Valley Memorial Park & Mortuary, is expected to stop traffic at intersections along its route, according to local fire and sheriff’s officials.

Mazzocco is being honored today with a service at Grace Baptist Church beginning at 10 a.m.

The procession immediately following the service is expected to take place between 10:30 and 11 a.m., said Detective Travis Kelly with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

It is expected to travel south on Seco Canyon Road to Bouquet Canyon Road, then through Newhall along Railroad Avenue and Newhall Avenue to Eternal Valley on Sierra Highway, he said.

Traffic at intersections along the route is expected to be stopped to allow the procession to proceed.

Mazzocco died Dec. 12 after a long illness. He was 48.

The veteran local firefighter started his career in 1986, becoming captain at local Fire Stations 111 and 73.
