Guards Myles Franklin and Lewis Stallworth gave the Hart Indians boys basketball team a needed spark on Saturday night in the semifinals of the Hart Holiday Classic at Hart High.

The Indians, after trailing most of the game, beat the Highland Bulldogs of Palmdale 77-72 after a strong fourth quarter performance.

Franklin led Hart with 24 points and Stallworth added 23 points in a win that put Hart (11-1) into the championship game of the tournament against Righetti High on Monday night at 7:30.

The Indians pulled off the victory despite falling behind 34-31 at halftime and trailing early in the fourth quarter.

Franklin, Stallworth and other key players like Colby Kaneshiro, Chase White and Davis Koppenhaver made enough big plays in the final minute to help the Indians outscore the Bulldogs (9-2) 24-16 in the final period.

“We got a couple defensive stops and we got a couple transition layups,” said Hart head coach Tom Kelly. “We got a couple transition buckets.”

For most of the game, Hart struggled against the defense of 6-foot-10 Highland center Devin Burleson, who scored 24 points in addition to his major presence on defense.

Charles Dixon-Brady III added 22 points for Highland, and former Golden Valley High player Dominic Gully scored 20.

“They’re pretty fast and quick and they’re pretty hard to guard man-to-man,” Kelly said.

The Indians were able to take the upper hand late and hold on partly because of a 10-of-11 shooting effort from the free-throw line in the fourth.

On Monday, Hart will face a 4-4 Highland team which features impressive 6-foot-7 point guard Cameron Walker.
