Signal Multimedia’s “Best Of” contest was just named “Best Metro Ballot” winner by Second Street, a leading national digital promotions company.

During the month of July, Signal readers voted for their favorite local companies in numerous business categories. The results were published in a special edition which highlighted all the winning companies during the month of September.

The 5th annual Second Street Awards recognized the best media promotions campaigns in the categories of contests, ballots, and deals for 2013.

“Signal Multimedia made a meaningful impact in their market by switching from a print-only contest to a print-online combination,” said Matt Coen, president and co-founder, Second Street. “By showcasing Signal Multimedia’s remarkable strategy, we hope other media companies will see how they can use online promotions to generate sustainable revenue streams, build email databases, and increase audience engagement.”

By changing the way people could vote, the newspaper was able to increase reader interaction by more than 110,000 votes and create new revenue streams, said Vince Johnson, chief multimedia officer for the company.

“This is an award not only for The Signal staff, but for the entire Santa Clarita Valley,” Johnson said. “The incredible passion put into this contest by local citizens and businesses is what makes it great. It’s become an annual staple of our community.”

The Signal beat out other media finalists including the San Diego Union-Tribune, Johnson said.

The Second Street awards cover more than 20 topics including the best photo and sports contest, best metro and niche ballot, best restaurant and recreation deal and best deals store. Second Street also recognizes the media outlets with the overall promotions performance covering small, mid-sized, and large market properties.
