Last week, women’s basketball split its two Golden State Athletic Conference games, while men’s basketball bagged two victories over NAIA Top 25 teams. Meanwhile, baseball remains undefeated at home after sweeping GSAC rival Vanguard University.

Women’s Basketball

With 18 rebounds and 21 points, Jacquelyn Marshall’s double-double led The Master’s College women’s basketball team past Concordia University Tuesday night with a 91-83 victory at Bross Court.

But on Saturday, the unranked Biola Eagles edged the NAIA seventh-ranked Lady Mustangs with 74-61 victory in La Mirada.

With the loss, The Master’s College women’s basketball team’s 2013-14 season record moves to 19-6 and 7-3 in GSAC play.

At the end of the night, Marshall led all scorers with 21 points, while freshman standout Megan Lindsley posted 14 points. Marshall led the Lady Mustangs with seven rebounds. Olivia Thompson led the squad with four assists.

As a team, the Lady Mustangs shot 44 percent from the field.

Now, with just four games left in the regular season schedule, the Lady Mustangs will look to rebound on Tuesday when the 12th-ranked Westmont Warriors march into The MacArthur Center. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.

Men’s Basketball

The Master’s College men’s basketball team bagged a marquee win Saturday evening, leading from start to finish in a 79-74 victory over No. 22 Biola. The win avenged a 14-point loss to the Eagles on Bross Court three weeks ago.

After losing five of six games in a recent 18-day stretch, the Mustangs (16-9 overall, 4-6 GSAC) have now won two in a row for the first time in conference play and are in a four-way logjam for fifth place, trailing three 5-5 teams by a game, and second-place Concordia by two games with four contests left.

After a solid first-half showing from the field where the Mustangs shot at a 58 percent clip, highlighted by a 7-of-12 showing from long distance, TMC was almost as good over the final 20 minutes, hitting 52percent of their shots to finish the evening at just under 56 percent.

Now, with the end of the regular season just two weeks away, the Mustangs will look to build on these wins (Concordia, Biola) on Tuesday evening when they host Westmont in a 7:30 p.m. start on Bross Court. Back on Jan. 28, the Warriors defeated the Mustangs 58-50.

On Saturday, The Master’s College baseball team completed its second GSAC sweep of the season, defeating Vanguard 5-3 and 9-3 at Reese Field. On Friday, the squad topped the Lions 9-7.

The wins keep the NAIA 12th-ranked Mustangs atop the conference with a 10-2 record (16-2 overall) while the Lions fell to 9-6 overall and 4-5 in the GSAC.

The Mustangs now look to continue their success today in a non-conference game against Oregon-based Corban University. First pitch is slated for 11:00 a.m. at Biola University in La Mirada.
