The mother, father and younger sister of a young Valencia man who died from injuries suffered in a traffic collision Friday are living moment to moment, struggling with their loss, his mother said Monday.

“We’re numb,” said Donna Zimmerman, whose son, Dylan, died in the hospital Friday of injuries suffered in a collision that day.

“We’re not sleeping,” she said Monday. “It’s moment by moment.”

Zimmerman died Friday night following a traffic collision in Valencia on Cooper Hill Drive near Copperstone Drive.

He was a Valencia High School graduate and student of architecture at College of the Canyons who planned to marry his girlfriend, Thalia, and live with her in the house he planned to design, his mother said.

“He was an amazing kid,” she told The Signal. “He was a straight ‘A’ student with a huge heart.

“His friends always had nothing but good things to say about him,” she said. “He had an amazing love for life.”

The outpouring of love and sympathy from the young man’s friends has been overwhelming, she said.

“Everyone has been amazing. It’s more than we ever imagined,” she said, referring to herself, her husband, James, and their 14-year-old daughter, Marisa, a freshman at Valencia High School.

“They (siblings) never argued, never fought. They’ve gotten along since they were toddlers,” Donna Zimmerman said.

Dylan Zimmerman played guitar, attended school for a while in Santa Cruz and recently began working at Best Buy. His future was bright until Friday, his mother said.

A memorial service in his honor is now scheduled to take place in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Valencia hotel beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday, she said.

A detective with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, meanwhile, said he is still looking for witnesses to Friday’s crash.

“I am still conducting interviews,” Detective Travis Kelly said Monday.

The identity and condition of the second driver have not been disclosed, but Kelly said Monday that driver is a male who was treated and released at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

The crash occurred when a white Ford Fusion traveling eastbound on Copper Hill Drive collided with a black Honda Civic that was exiting Copperstone Drive, according to a collision report issued by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. The report did not indicate which car Zimmerman was driving.

Witnesses to the collision were asked to contact Kelly at 661-255-1121.
