Support local businesses and save the billboards

In regards to the story “A closer look sought for billboard proposal” published in The Signal Feb. 13: City Council members are not acting in the best interest of my community with their proposal to remove local billboards.

Many people like myself want to support local, mom-and-pop shops throughout our neighborhood, but by eliminating the affordable resource of billboard advertising, I’m afraid we will see many of our favorite small businesses go out of business.

I make a conscious effort to shop locally whenever possible. Supporting local merchants is very important to me personally, as I know it is to my friends and neighbors.

If affordable advertising isn’t available, how will I be able to identify what local businesses are available to patronize?

This proposal is not the best deal for local businesses, the city or its residents.

I sincerely hope City Council members will consider the negative effects of this proposal and explore other solutions to better serve the community.
