An 18-year-old Saugus man was killed early Saturday morning in Sun Valley when he jumped from a car after it was involved in a traffic collision on Interstate 5, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol said.

The deceased man has been identified as Blake Cook, according to a spokesman with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Department.

About 4:20 a.m. Saturday, CHP officers responded to a crash on the northbound lanes of the freeway, north of Tuxford Street, an investigating officer with the CHP in Altadena wrote in his news release.

Cook was one of two passengers in a 2000 Honda Accord Coupe driven by Eddie Camargo, 20, also of Saugus, CHP Officer Sanchez said.

The Honda collided with a semi truck which resulted in the car left blocking the fast lane and the lane adjacent to it.

After the collision, the occupants of the (Honda) exited and attempted to run out of the roadway,” Sanchez wrote.

A third vehicle - a 1997 Toyota Corolla - also travelling north on the freeway then collided with the truck, he said.

“While attempting to exit the roadway, (Cook) was struck and fatally injured by an unknown type of vehicle that fled the scene, northbound on Interstate 5,” Sanchez said.

Cook was a senior at Valencia High School, Gail Pinsker, spokeswoman for the William S. Hart Union School District, said Sunday.

He transferred out of the district, however, at the beginning of this year, she said.

Cook also attended Saugus High School, Canyon High School, Arroyo Seco Junior High School, Rio Norte Junior High School and the Opportunities For Learning Public Charter School.

The collision is under investigation,

The other passenger in the Honda, identified only as a 19-year-old Saugus man, suffered minor injuries, Sanchez wrote in his report.

The 27-year-old driver of the Toyota, a Palmdale resident, suffered moderate injuries, he said and the truck driver was not hurt,

Camargo, who reportedly suffered no injuries, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, according to the news release issued by Sanchez.

His bail is set $15,000.

His arrest marks the third time this year he was detained on suspicion of having broken the law, according documents maintained by the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Inmate Information Center.

Less than two weeks ago, on Feb. 25, Camargo was arrested on suspicion of possessing narcotics, drugs, alcohol or drug paraphernalia on jail grounds, according to the same center.

He was released from custody two days later on grounds the complaint against him was insufficient, the documents show.

Prior to that, Camargo was arrested by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies Jan. 2, 2014, on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale.  His bail was set at $20,000.

Sheriff’s records show he was released from custody at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail shortly after 3:30 p.m. the day after his arrest.
