A motorcyclist in his early 20’s was injured and rushed to the hospital late Thursday afternoon following a traffic collision near College of the Canyons, according to emergency response officials.

Shortly after 4:45 p.m. Thursday, paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to reports of a motorcycle and car colliding on Valencia Boulevard at Campus Drive, between Rockwell Canyon Road and Intestate 5, said Fire Department Inspector Scott Miller.

Paramedics fastened a neck brace to the motorcyclist’s neck, cut away his tan-colored pants and placed him on a stretcher, then into an ambulance.

“He was alive and taken to the hospital,” Miller said.

The motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on Valencia Boulevard, said Sgt. Delicia Hernandez of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The vehicle made a left turn into College of the Canyons,” she said.

That’s when the collision occurred, she said.  The motorcyclist was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, she said.

The car - a black Cadillac - sustained damage to its right rear passenger door.  The motorcycle, described by Hernandez as a “sports bike” was also damaged.

As soon as the crash happened, Hernandez said, cadets enrolled in the sheriff’s Explorers program, taking part in physical training at the college, ran to the scene of the crash.

“When they heard the crash they ran out, put on traffic vests and started directing traffic,” she said.

The two occupants of the Cadillac - a female driver and a male passenger - were not injured in the crash, she added.
