A look back at the crimes reported in the Newhall area last week.

Between Monday the 10th at 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday the 11th at 6:00 a.m., a theft from an unlocked vehicle occurred in the 20900 block of Costa Brava.

Between Monday the 10th at 10:30 p.m., and Tuesday the 11th at 7:00 a.m., a 1997 Honda civic was stolen from the 23600 block of Newhall Avenue.  The vehicle was recovered on Friday the 14th by LAPD in the San Fernando area.

If a professional car thief wants your vehicle, unfortunately there is little you can do to prevent it.  But there are some extra crime prevention measures you can take to help prevent your vehicle from being stolen or tampered with.  Some of the things are as simple as always close and lock your doors and windows.  Use steering wheel or pedal locking devices.  Have a professional install an ignition immobilizer.  Car alarms are helpful, but are often ignored nowadays.  Park strategically.  Use secure parking areas, use your garage, park in well-lit areas, and where your vehicle is visible.

Remember to lock your doors and windows, don’t leave valuables in plain view, be aware of your surroundings, and report suspicious behavior.
