A 34-year-old motorcyclist died of critical injuries after he apparently ran his bike into the rear of another vehicle in Canyon Country, according to officials from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Soledad Canyon Road east of Canyon Country Park when the collision occurred about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, said Sgt. Richard Cohen.

The motorcycle “collided into the rear end of a vehicle traveling in the same direction,” Cohen said in a news release. The driver was thrown off the bike and critically injured in the collision.

Speed was believed to be a factor in the collision, said sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Kern. The fatal crash occurred between Sierra Highway and Sand Canyon Road in the 17000 block of Soledad, Kern said.

The injured man was treated at the scene by Los Angeles County paramedics and transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Cohen said.

The victim was identified Friday as Kenneth George Burt Jr., said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. His place of residence was unknown, Winter said.

No other people were injured in the collision, according to Detective Travis Kelly with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Any witnesses to the collision were asked to contact Kelly at 661-255-1121 or via email at
