Beginning this week, crews from the Southern California Gas Company will begin the process of replacing about 3,000 feet of pipe along Newhall Avenue, a process that is expected to take 10 to 12 weeks to complete.

The project, which is part of the Southern California Gas Company’s Pipeline Safety Enhancement Plan, is expected to begin Tuesday, and construction is scheduled to take place during the day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, according to Angela Fentiman, a spokeswoman for the company.

There will temporarily be lane closures as the project progresses, and there may be a smell of natural gas in the area, according to Fentiman.

Work is expected to take place on Newhall Avenue starting near Pine Street and ending east of Valle del Oro, according to the company. It is not anticipated that gas service will be interrupted during the work process.
