County supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a $4.2 million project for infrastructure improvement at the Del Valle Regional Emergency Training Center, a site in Castaic used to conduct firefighter training operations.

The vote from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors will allow construction of a new communications building, a new water storage tank, an electrical substation and telecommunications and electrical conduits to support the existing buildings at the approximately 160-acre site, which is located on Chiquito Canyon Road in Castaic.

The Del Valle site is used by the Consolidated Fire Protection District of Los Angeles County, in partnership with College of the Canyons, to conduct training exercises on a variety of live firefighting operations, including training on how to handle flammable liquids, conduct urban search-and-rescue operations and deal with hazardous materials.

Construction is expected to begin in July 2015 and be complete April 2016.
